Our History

Couples for Christ began in 1981 in Manila, when Ligaya ng Panginoon (LNP), a covenanted Catholic charismatic community, realized that to effectively renew society, conversion to Christ of spouses and families was necessary.

Beginning from the first 16 couples who joined weekly gathering, CFC became a ministry for the renewal of the family and the church and was later made available to parishes and dioceses. In the Archdiocese of Lipa, CFC started in 1987 with 25 couples at the Parish of Immaculate Conception, Batangas City. By 1993, Couples for Christ formed its Family Ministries, namely: CFC Kids for Christ (KFC), CFC Youth for Christ (YFC), CFC Singles for Christ (SFC), CFC Handmaids of the Lord (HOLD) and CFC Servants of the Lord (SOLD).

Since 1981, CFC has established the community throughout the Philippines and globally – becoming a worldwide ministry of evangelization that is committed to share God’s love with others, beginning from the basic unit, the family. The recognition of CFC as a National Association of the Lay Faithful was granted by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) in 1996. In the year 2005, the Vatican gave its definitive and permanent recognition of CFC as a Private International Association of the Faithful of Pontifical Right. By the end of 2011, there were over 100 countries with active CFC and Family Ministries’ membership.

CFC is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as Couples for Christ Global Mission Foundation Inc. with its Global Mission Home Office in Quezon City. The area governance of the Couples For Christ Archdiocese of Lipa is based in the Provincial Mission Center
in Batangas City.
